A trailer driver and his conductor have been shot dead by suspected cultists along the Port Harcourt-Owerri road.
DAILY POST gathered that four others who were travelling in a commercial bus have also been kidnapped in what seem to be cult-related in Omerelu Community.
Eyewitnesses say there was a lot of shelling between rival cult groups who went on rampage between Omerelu and Ubima communities both in Ikwerre Local Government area.
One of the eyewitnesses who spoke with our correspondent, Nnanna Chima, said passengers travelling to and from Port Harcourt were stranded for more than five hours until the military officers salvaged the situation.
“It was like we were in a war zone. The sound of the guns continued for a long time. About six hours I guess until Police officers came told us that they were Icelanders and Deygbam cult groups.
“The Police could not do anything. They even advised us to turn back to where we are coming from. Some people ran into bush.
“It was soldiers that came and chased the boys from the road.”
A source within the community, who confirmed the attack, said the criminals went on rampage in the community and major road in the area, kidnapping and killing those that came their way.
He disclosed that the community has been deserted just as he called on security operatives to come to their rescue.
In the meantime, military operatives have been deployed to Omurelu Community to calm the situation.
